Guitar Hero Jumps Shark

I'm sorry but two, nay, almost three full retail games release in the span of a year spells one thing... death of a brand. I can't figure out for the life of me why they aren't doing stuff like this with downloadable content(DLC) instead of a $50 retail package... seems a bit near sited. RockBand just cleared 6million in song downloads at 2 bucks a pop, and they aren't going to be doing anything but DLC for the next year. Granted I am holding out hope for a horn and maybe a keytar for the game, at least they are dealing with distribution in a forward thinking approach. Game retailers are starting to freak out, I mean seriously why go to a store when you can get your game of the network. It solves so many issues for software manufactures, piracy and overhead would certainly be lower and that equals cheaper for the end users.

Losing my mind...

Knowing is half the battle... oh yes indeed. Cobra Commander may be wandering into the land of WTF from what we saw from Massive Black's stray email, but at least they got my boy Snake Eyes right. And get this Star Wars geeks the guy that played Darth Maul is playing him.

Music is my Boyfriend.

Was trollin' the net this weekend, found some great new grooves, and I just added it to my shared iTunes under O's New Hotness Mar/Apr08. Also tossed in some great stuff that I've been meaning to bring in. Adding more as I find it.

Enjoy.

I Still Don't Get the Mac Ads ...

It's not the fact that most of their ads are a far stretch at best (often, they're just factually wrong), or that they aren't well written. It's the fact that they are all attack ads. And that they've been running for years now.

Here's the deal with attack ads (in my opinion). They can be great in small doses. Short bursts. Used to disrupt the market and get people talking. However, in a sustained long-term campaign they start to piss people off and make you look a bit desperate. I think this is especially true when you're in a category where people are spending hundreds, often thousands, of dollars. You're telling people that they just made a poor $1500 decision. You're calling them stupid. And no matter how cute you are when you do it, or how funny John Hodgeman is, deep down inside the consumer knows you're calling them stupid. And calling a potential customer stupid for years on end is, well, stupid. Just read the comments on this YouTube post.

Cool ATARI ads from New Zealand

I guess these are supposed to reference the heritage and history ATARI has in making sports video games. Too bad they've been shoveling out virtual crap for the last 10 years. Either way, I like the simplicity of the idea. I love ads that don't need words (or headlines that don't need visuals). These were done by an agency called Republic. Anyone ever heard of 'em?

Cool German Converse Site

Check out this cool site for Converse. In particular, check out the Katalog. Very cool, but simple, way to integrate the brand and navigate. It's also a great demonstration of our bandwidth issues in the office.
