Responsible Web Design

Here's that word again, microformats. Making our content readable by machines as well as by people.
  • Keep your presentation and content layers separate, so your content can go anywhere.
  • Name your CSS for its intent, not its appearance.
  • Separate CSS rules for category and function (e.g. one style sheet each for layout rules, typographic rules, application and functional rules, browser hacks)
Javascript
  • Design is becoming a technical discipline
  • Progressive ehnancement/graceful degredation - build universally accessible page first, then enhance for more advanced browsers
  • Unobtrusive javascript - remove event handlers from within the page
Workflow
  • Develop in Firefox, debug in IE
  • Dreamweaver debugging & upcoming features
